HICAPS - Excellence in Construction

Charlotte, NC- November 15, 2012 - HICAPS has received the 2012 Merit Award for Construction Excellence from ABCC (Associated Builders and Contractors of the Carolinas).  Accepting the award for HICAPS was Dan Hood, President and CEO of HICAPS, and his wife Gisela Hood.  The Project Manager was Chip Calhoun.
The award was given for the VA Long Term Care Facility in Salisbury, NC.  This project consisted of an extensive renovation of 45,000 square feet in the existing and fully operational Long Term Care (Building 42,) in three phases, on three different floors, plus the construction of an attached New Hospice Building (approximately 19,000 square feet) which had elaborate interior millwork and trim finishes, and the exterior had extensive site work and landscaping.  Even though this was not a Design/Build project, HICAPS worked with RPA Design, the Architect of Record, throughout the duration.  The total project duration was 400 days.
Congratulations on a great project!

Two CPN Members are Teaming

The Team of Davie Construction and HICAPS has recently been awarded a $1.3 million dollar US Army Corps of Engineers' project at Lakes Philpot and W. Kerr Scott Dam. The Project consists of the demolition and replacement of five lake shower houses and the renovation of one. The work also includes the construction of two new sanitary drip fields, filters and pump stations. Notice to proceed and completion dates have been staggered to perform most of the onsite work in the fall/winter/spring of 2010 through 2011. The general contracting experience and knowledge of the local subcontractor base of Davie Construction and the federal contracting and project management expertise of HICAPS have made this partnership a competitive and viable team in the federal market.

Mapping It Out

In a recent discussion on Marketing strategy it came to our attention that a good way to introduce our clients to the coverage area of HICAPS was to literally map it out. Since maps are a visual form of communication it brought to mind the old adage that “a picture is worth a thousand words”. With this in mind we felt it would give our clients a better understanding of what our coverage capabilities are.

Meet the Partners of HICAPS Building Diagnostics

The cornerstone of HICAPS (Hood Information Control and Planning Systems) for the past 25 years has been CPM Scheduling and Project Controls. It is still our firm belief that good information, controls and planning give every project the highest chance of success. In 2007 we added another service as a natural outgrowth of our other areas of expertise. Building Diagnostics is something HICAPS’ has done as part of our claims resolution services and was a natural fit. As part of the best value concept we wanted to offer a one stop shopping approach. When we made the commitment to make Building Diagnostics a mainstay service, we reached out to the known experts that we had worked with in the past and invited them to become partners in a cooperative effort. We are proud of our association with FCG (Facility Consulting Group), HCR (Hummer Construction Resources) and West and Stem Architects.

We wanted to introduce you to our partners and decided that we would post a bio on each of our partners. We will focus our next three blogs on our partners, beginning with Facility Consulting Group (FCG). FCG has been in business since 1993. Their role in HICAPS Building Diagnostic Services is primarily the roof areas. Using thermographic imaging equipment to locate faulty electrical panels and equipment within the building. Infrared Thermography is an important aspect of building diagnostic services. Using this technique deteriorating components can be indentified prior to failure. Moisture is one of the major factors to be considered in building diagnostic surveys. Once moisture makes its way into building materials, structural integrity deteriorates and becomes a breeding ground for mold. Our goal is to help preserve buildings and equipment through preventive maintenance. This is accomplished through a dedicated staff of trained, experienced professionals with the ability to assess and evaluate entire facilities using state of the art methods and equipment.

FCG decided to become a partner based on the strength that each of the companies brings to the group.
